On Curaçao, the wind is almost always constant enough for kitesurfing. However, weather conditions can change; the wind may decrease in strength or become very gusty. This can affect the lessons. Sometimes we need to pump to a bigger kite or take a break. It can also happen that we must reschedule a lesson because there is not enough wind.
Sometimes people think they don’t need kite lessons because they are very sporty and handy. Please do not practice with the kite yourself! Accidents happen, this has happened too often. You are also a danger to other kite surfers! Take classes, this provides a safe and reliable environment for yourself and others!
When you learn to kite, you can get to a point where things don’t go the way you hoped. You go two steps forward and one step back. You feel frustrated and you curse the kite. But then all of a sudden, you’ll laugh and high-five at the same time. You notice that every second of the battle, the fun of kiteboarding is well worth it. You will always end with a smile on your face!
If you want to learn to kitesurfing, you are probably drawn to the sheer excitement of blasting across the water with the force of the wind. You assume it will give you the kick you are looking for. Well, you’re right! As soon as you really experience that for the first time, everything around you switches off completely. Time and sound don’t exist. Your senses are sharp and you feel you are you alive!! When you have landed the kite and you are back in the car, you realize that you almost want to do everything to get that feeling again!!
Kitesurfing is a real community sport. People are friendly and are happy to help each other. Kite surfers love other kite surfers, there is rarely a conflict on the water. It is a very nice habit that you always help each other with launching and landing the kite.
While learning to kitesurf, you will notice that there is always someone with a smile or a thumbs up to you when you have finished a session. Then you can chat about your kite adventures at the bar on the kite spot, while enjoying a well deserved coke or beer!
